The Lodge is nestled in the small Sherpa village “Khiraule” in the foothills of the Himalaya at an altitude of 2.250m. Next to the Lodge is a peaceful Stupa and the Buddhist monastery keeps guard over the Sherpa houses and fields. In the morning you can catch a glimpse of the distant snow covered peaks. From here you can start your journey to Lukla and the Mt. Everset region, to the mystic Panch Pokhari, sacred, to Hindu and Buddhists and further on to Beyulkhang and Mera Peak or travers east to Makalu basecamp, Kanchenjunga or Tumlingtar or west via Salleri to Phaplu, Junbesi and Jiri.
Snow Lion ECO Lodge is a very good spot to start your trekking & expedition tour. We are on an a perfect altitude of 2200 – 2500 m to prepare your group for acclimation. A lot of trekking and expeditions starts from us. Khiraule is located in the heart of Makalu Barun National Park, at the foot of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu.
Namgel is the founder of Nepalhilfe Bonn e.V. and a partner of EcoHimal nepal. The purpose of the association is to support the residents in the Solukhumbu area, in eastern Nepal, in their efforts to sustainably improve their living conditions. Project plans are drawn up in close consultation with the local population. These include, among other things, the development and maintenance of energy supply, water supply and sanitation, basic medical care, communication infrastructure, the promotion of school and training, agriculture and forestry including reforestation, environmental protection and biodiversity as well as cultural and religious institutions such as Monasteries and temples. In doing so, we ensure that the ecology, the environment and the social and cultural structures on site are not affected.
